March 18, 2019: The second and final day of GEC Open World Final 2018-19 moved to the Earth Course of the prestigious Jumeirah Golf Estates. The best 60 golfers from 34 countries under the fold of GEC Open 2018 came together for the final round of golf of the 5th edition.
India’s Ankit Mohindra who qualified from Delhi NCR qualifying round held at Classic Golf Resort near Gurgaon consolidated on his first-day score of 37 points with a superb round of 33 Stableford points. The overall score of 70 Stableford points was enough to propel him to the top of the leaderboard and take home the coveted trophy.
Benja Rattanaphan, a national winner from Nikanti Golf Club in Thailand, scored identical scores of 70 Stableford points but had to settle for runner-up position due to a higher playing handicap.
The third position again went to a Thai golfer in Phum Ketkham who carded a two-day total of 67 Stableford points.
Ankit Mohindra commented: “I am extremely happy to have come here and finished on top of the leaderboard. I thoroughly enjoyed first-rate golf experience at two of the world-class golf courses, as well as all the arrangements done by the oraganisers. The tournament also provided us with an opportunity to network with amateur golfers and leaders from various industries who all share the common love for the game of golf. It was also a rich cultural experience. This victory will stay with me.”
A special note of thanks to our sponsors and partners, OMA Emirates, Callaway, bizgolf, Chase54, African+Eastern, Andromeda, Egypt Air for their continued support and patronage for the event. A big shout out to the management at Jumeirah Golf Estates for a seamless execution of the competition.
