Ghana hosts GEC Open Golf Tournament August 25 | Tema, Accra
In its 5th year, the Global Enterprise Connect (GEC) Open, in association with OMA Emirates global golf tournament returned to Ghana for a third successive edition with two national qualifying rounds. The event kicked off with ‘GEC Breakfast Connect’ on 24th August followed by competitive golf at Celebrity Golf Club (Tema) on 25th August.
Played amongst 100+ avid corporate golfers representing a wide array of industries that contribute massively to the Ghanaian economy. Braving inclement weather, Jimmie Thorne picks the first ticket to Dubai Corporate Golf World Cup in the GEC Open 2018 qualifying Round in Accra, seconded by Beatrice Vetsch-Bempong in an outstanding Play off.
Playing in Stableford format, Jimmie Thorne scored 35 points while Beatrice Vetsch-Bempong also scored 35 to go for the first time an outstanding play off to place second whiles Vastie Amoafo-Yeboah placed 3rd with 34 points.
For Longest drive for Men and Women, Alan Mugisha drove a distance of 290 yards whiles Leticia Amponsah Mensah drove 300 yards. Closest to the Pin was picked by Martin Osei and Catherine Fabby with 0.35meters and 0.38metrs respectively.
The other entry from Ghana for the Dubai Corporate Golf World Cup will be selected from the second Ghana qualifier is scheduled to be held at The Royal Golf Club (Kumasi) on 8th September 2018.
GEC Open 2018 is poised to host 54 qualifying rounds in 34 countries making it one of the biggest corporate golf tournament all around the world. A 36-hole tournament, DCGWC will played over two days at Jumeirah Golf Estate and Emirates Golf Club in December later this year where national winners from 34 countries will compete to be crowned global champions. There was a special action of paintings by the artist Patrick Badoo to raise money for charity- S.H.E Rises foundation, run by two young ladies Chelsea and Mimie.
